Scope of Warranty Coverage

Our Totem Chiminea comes with a limited warranty against defects in material or workmanship. The limited warranty applies within the U.S. and Canada to the original purchase of a Neighbor product from Neighbor or an authorized reseller. "Defect in workmanship and materials" means an irregularity that renders the product unsound, malfunctioning, or otherwise unsuitable for its intended use under ordinary conditions.

Coverage by Product Component

  • The steel body, flue sections, and all structural hardware are warranted for one (1) year from delivery against physical or structural failure, damage or deterioration that renders them unsuitable for intended use. This includes premature or excessive rust or corrosion that indicates a defect in material, coating, or manufacturing.
  • Accessories and consumable components — including the kindling tray, ash plug, ash pan, and set screws — are warranted for one (1) year from delivery against physical or structural failure, damage or deterioration that renders them unsuitable for intended use.

Neighbor's liability is limited to this limited warranty. Neighbor reserves the right to require proof of purchase or other reasonable cooperation, and to inspect any product submitted for claim. Post-purchase product modifications and commercial use invalidate the limited warranty.

Warranty Service

We will repair or replace a product or product part that is defective in material or workmanship. We may elect to repair or replace a part rather than the entire product, and reserve discretion over that election. All warranty replacements will be the model, version, color, or style of the product, part, or component available at the time of replacement, which may differ in some respects from the original. Any warranty repair or replacement will neither extend the warranty period, nor commence a new one. One warranty claim limit per customer.

Exclusions from Warranty Coverage

Exclusions from the limited warranty include:

  • Exposure to extreme climate, weather, or environmental conditions, standing water or other excessive moisture, prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight, or exposure to flame or excessive heat beyond normal operation of the chiminea.
  • Improper assembly or installation, including use of a drill during assembly or failure to follow the assembly guide.
  • Improper use or maintenance, including but not limited to burning unauthorized fuels (e.g., charcoal, gas, treated lumber, or any fuel other than natural seasoned firewood and kindling), overloading the firebox, damage from sharp objects, misuse or abuse, and failure to regularly remove ash and clean the product. Ash should be removed after the chiminea has fully cooled using the included ash pan, ash plug, and kindling tray system. Accumulated ash left in the firebox can retain moisture and accelerate corrosion.
  • Modification or alteration of the product.
  • Natural variation in color or finish.
  • Cosmetic changes resulting from normal use, including discoloration, patina, or minor surface oxidation from heat exposure. Note: mild surface rust is a natural characteristic of steel exposed to fire and the elements and is not considered a defect. However, premature or excessive rust or corrosion that compromises the structural integrity of the product within the warranty period may indicate a manufacturing defect and is eligible for a warranty claim.
  • Chips, dents, scratches, and other cosmetic blemishes that occur as a result of normal exposure to elements or that occur naturally in the manufacturing process.
  • Damage to covers, cloths, or other accessories caused by contact with the chiminea while hot, including melting, scorching, or warping. Steel retains heat long after flames are extinguished — always allow the chiminea to cool completely before covering, cleaning with fabric, or placing any materials on or against the unit.
  • Use of the product for commercial purposes.
  • Costs associated with covered warranty claims, such as labor, installation, and shipping, except if/as noted.

Note: It is important to carefully read and follow all instructions in the assembly guide and cleaning & care documentation to ensure the safe use and maintenance of the Totem Chiminea. Failure to do so may result in injury, property damage, or invalidation of the limited warranty.

Safety Guidelines

To ensure safe and reliable operation of your Totem Chiminea, always follow the clearance and placement guidelines below.

Minimum Clearances

  • Sides: At least 48 inches (4 ft) from all combustible materials, including walls, furniture, railings, and vegetation.
  • Front (open flame direction): At least 48 inches (4 ft).
  • Overhead: Completely clear — no structures, coverings, or obstructions of any kind.
  • Structures: Place unit at least 10 feet away from structures and buildings. Do not use under pergolas, roofs, umbrellas, tree branches, or any overhead obstruction.

Surface Requirements

Use only on non-combustible surfaces such as concrete, stone, gravel, or fire-rated pavers. Do not place directly on wood or composite decking without a proper heat barrier or stand. Ensure the surface is stable, level, and heat-resistant.

Ventilation & Placement

For outdoor use only. Do not operate in enclosed or partially enclosed spaces. Ensure fully open-air placement with unrestricted airflow.

Operating Safety

Never leave a fire unattended. Keep a water source, fire extinguisher, or sand nearby. Do not use during high winds or local burn restrictions. Allow unit to cool completely before handling or storing.

Codes & Compliance

Always follow local fire codes and regulations and all product-specific instructions provided with your unit. When guidelines differ, follow the most conservative (largest) clearance requirement.

Important: Improper placement or insufficient clearance may result in property damage, personal injury, or fire hazard. These guidelines are intended to reduce risk but do not eliminate it entirely.
