The Dining Set: Behind The Design

Summer entertaining is here! Introducing our new outdoor Dining Set. Part of our Haven collection, our new dining table and chairs are indoor-inspired and the perfect addition to your favorite outdoor lounge furniture. Our founding team shares all the details on the design process for these pieces and how they plan to enjoy them in their own spaces.

Why was it time to expand to a dining collection?

Nick Arambula, CEO: We’ve been working on this dining set since the beginnings of Neighbor. It’s taken us some time to get it the way we want it, but dining has always been a natural next step for our brand. When thinking about what makes a backyard space perfect for spending time with family and friends, meals are a big part. We believe this dining set will give people even more opportunities to connect and make memories outdoors. 

What are the most important elements of outdoor dining furniture?

Chris Lee, COO: Like our lounge seating, finding and working with the best materials available was our focus when designing the dining set. The table and chairs are made with FSC-certified solid teak, which is exceptionally durable. Teak has natural water-repellent properties and is easy to maintain if you let it patina to a silvery grey. Functionality and comfort also played largely into the design of these pieces. The chairs’ woven rope seat is spacious and great for long dinner conversations, and the table is wide enough to serve your favorite meals without making it seem like you’re too far away from the person across from you. Both size tables can accommodate an umbrella but have a teak cap to cover it up when you don’t need it.

This set looks like it could be indoor furniture. Was that on purpose? 

Mike Fretto, Creative Director: We started Neighbor with the idea that outdoor furniture design elements should be as elevated and detail-driven as interior furniture. For this collection, the dining table and chairs are designed for durability and bring softness to the solid teak construction. We were very considerate about highlighting the beautiful grain of our Grade A teak in each Table plank and leaned on the classically modern wishbone chair as inspiration for our Chair’s arc backrest and rope seat. We’ve heard the feedback that this furniture is nice enough to bring indoors, and we agree.

What makes the Neighbor’s Dining Set special?

Nick: I think what makes our dining set special to us and our customers is that it’s an investment in meaningful connection with friends and loved ones. We see the Table and Chair becoming part of your daily life the same way good food and laughs are central to your home. We labored over details like the materials, durability, and design so that when you receive our furniture, you’ll be able can enjoy it right away and for a long time.
