Totem’s porcelain-enamel finish is built for outdoor durability. That said, no metal product is entirely unaffected by salt air and coastal exposure. For homes near the ocean, regular rinsing with fresh water and routine care will help maintain the finish over time.

For the best performance, use dry, seasoned hardwood such as oak or maple. Avoid treated wood, softwoods with high sap content, or construction scraps.

A chiminea is a freestanding outdoor fireplace designed to burn wood while directing smoke upward through a vertical flue. Unlike open fire pits, a wood-burning chiminea like Totem contains the flame and helps manage heat and airflow more efficiently.

Yes. Totem is a modern wood-burning outdoor fireplace designed for real logs and open flame. It does not use propane or natural gas.

Totem is designed with an elevated kindling platform that improves airflow for a hotter, more efficient burn. Like all wood-burning fireplaces, some smoke is natural, but proper airflow and dry hardwood help minimize excess smoke.

Totem includes a removable ash pan with a basin hole and a plug for easy cleanup. After the fire has fully cooled, remove the ash pan and dispose of the ashes safely. Routine cleaning can be done with mild soap and water on the exterior porcelain enamel surface.

Totem can be used on most outdoor patios and decks, but placement should follow local fire safety codes. Always ensure 4 feet of clearance from combustible structures and 10 feet from buildings and structures. We recommend placing it on a fire-resistant surface.
